Wax Rings, Lectures, and Halloween…

October 22-28:

I spent a lot of time in the wax room this week. My deadline for my 11 cast rings is coming up so I’ve really been working on my wax rings. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it and I’m super excited to see all of them together in the end!

Wednesday after studio we had a guest artist lecture. Donna Bilak came and gave a presentation on her body of work. She is a historian of early modern sciences and a goldsmith. She spoke a lot about using fabrication techniques with replacing technology with things the body naturally produces. It’s all super interesting. I loved listening to her speak.

Thursday evening I also attended a panel discussion with some of the local Providence government officials. The was a viewing of the documentary, “No Time to Fail”, about what happens behind the scenes during election the 2020 election. It was a really interesting discussion about the voting process at the state and national level.

Friday I had my Election 2024 class and then went back to the studio to do some silver castings. I’m working on making a dining room set for my fingers. I’m having a lot of fun with it!

Friday evening I got dinner with Millie, Livia, and Stefan at the cafeteria. Livia and I then started to get ready for some Halloween parties that some of our friends were having. We decided to dress as Puss in Boots and Kitty Soft Paws from the Puss in Boots movie. It was so fun seeing what everyone was dressed as!

The rest of the weekend I worked in the studio on my wax rings and figuring out some mechanics for the pearl necklace I’m making.

On Sunday night my friends Jameson and Amelia and I were feeling too couped up so we decided to drive to Beaver Tail Lighthouse and go for a hike along the ocean at sunset. It was so gorgeous and the perfect way to end the weekend!

Have a good week!

Love, Sophia
