Leo, Studio Work, and Ice Cream

April 15-28

I have been in the thick of finals these past couple of weeks and I have a few more weeks to go until the end! Last weekend my friend Leo from Interlochen came to visit and it was so much fun! We walked around Providence, went dancing, and just caught up with each other.

This week was mostly spent in the studio working on my finals. I went into the printmaking studio on Monday before class to work on my intaglio prints. During class, we had a demo on how to make portfolio boxes to store all of our prints.

On Tuesday I worked on my earring assignment. I am working on forging a piece of metal to fit around my ear and create a way to be able to hear what is being said behind you. That piece is a lot of trial and error to figure out what exactly works to make it fit. During my studio class, I worked on setting the stone into the prong setting I made for my ring. We are currently working on an assignment that is making a ring a week with a new technique for setting a stone into it. In the evening I worked on my essay for my Intro to Culture Criticism class. I am writing about the resurgence of the traditional housewife in social media.

Wednesday morning I went to my Culture Criticism class and we workshopped our essays with our peers and got feedback on them. I then went to my studio class and continued working on my ring settings. After class, I went to an artist talk given by the archive head of David Webb Jewelry. It was really interesting to hear him speak about what the archiving process looks like for a heritage brand. I worked late in the early morning on my assignment for my Identity and Alterego class. I managed to get it done and then worked on my presentation for class in the afternoon. It was a big relief to have finished that part of the assignment.

Thursday was such a beautiful day outside. I spent some time in the sun before heading to class to give my presentation. It went well.

Friday morning Millie and I worked on our homework for printmaking class before grabbing brunch and getting to work on some homework. I watched a documentary called Tickled for my Culture Criticism class. It was really interesting. I then went on a little adventure with my roommate Lee to get some ice cream and eat it by the water. It was nice to spend some time with her.

Saturday I had brunch with Millie and we talked for a while before spending some time outside in the sun and then getting to work for the day. I worked on some more printmaking stuff. In the evening Livia, Stephan, and I decided to go to our favorite brewery for some pretzels and drinks. On the way home we spotted a new oyster bar and decided to stop in so we could each have an oyster. It was very delicious and I will be going back!
